This zinc-rich epoxy resin-based powder coating is designed for electrostatic application. It is suitable for metal parts that have difficulties with phosphatization and require good corrosion protection, provided they are not directly exposed to sunlight. The coating can be used either as a final finish or as a base for another type of finish. It complies with the RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC.
Main Applications:
Generators
Electrical panels
Metal structures
Outdoor furniture
Remarks:
The substrate must be clean and free of debris before application, and it can be prepared with degreasers, solvents, shot blasting with steel grit SA 2½, or phosphatization. The zinc-rich coating must be applied within 4 hours after substrate preparation.
If it is necessary to handle the parts before applying the zinc-rich coating or the final finish, gloves are recommended to avoid contamination by hand oils.
In laboratory tests, the coating demonstrated good resistance to Salt Spray for more than 3000 hours, showing the onset of red corrosion only in cut areas, without spreading. In field conditions, the effectiveness of the protection depends on the care taken during system application. In areas where the substrate is exposed due to cuts or damage, red corrosion may occur but will not spread to the rest of the piece.
Recommendations:
Coating Repairs: Any damage to the surface of the primer and finish system should be repaired as quickly as possible. After degreasing with solvent, the damaged area should be sanded down to the substrate and cleaned again. Then, apply a two-component zinc-rich epoxy liquid primer, followed by a liquid topcoat with performance similar to the powder finish.
